Spotlight on Happiness Engineering

If you’ve ever wanted to know more about what it’s like to work at Automattic or are curious about the role of a Happiness Engineer, check out this short video for a peek at what my workday is like. And if you’re a feline fan, watch for a brief cameo by my most camera-friendly cat, Finnegan.

I was honoured to be part of this Career Spotlights series for YES Montreal, an organization that provides resources and encouragement to English-speaking Montrealers looking to build a career in this city.

  1. Thank you Kathryn for sharing insights about the work culture of HE. I am thinking of applying for the post and am looking for such in-person reviews from the HEs themselves so yeah it is very much helpful. I would appreciate if you could post about how the selection process takes place and how many places are vacant for the HE post. I would like to reach you through email if you are comfortable with that. 🙂

  2. Hi Kathryn! Thank you for providing insight on the role of Happiness Engineer! I recently stumbled upon the position and, just like you, my eyes lit up! I have a new goal of one day becoming an Automattician. I’m currently 24 and have an IT degree. Do you have any advice on becoming an Automattician or do you believe I should apply now and hope for the best? Thanks in advance! It’s great to learn about Automattic and the diverse community it holds!

    • Hi Eallas, I’m glad to hear your eyes lit up, that’s always good sign that something has really resonated! If you’re interested in Happiness Engineering, I wrote a post a while back that might help you decide if you’re ready to apply. Whatever you decide, I wish you all the best in your journey!

      • Thanks for the response Kathryn! This position continues to resonate within me and I’m working on becoming a great fit for it! I’ll look over your post and really get to know more on truly being a Happiness Engineer! Thanks you so much for your help and I look forward to the next time we cross paths! Until then, I also wish you the best, especially with the holiday season!
